What strategies do you use to attract new clients or customers to your business?
If you’ve been in business for a while, there often becomes a point where all of your marketing techniques to reach new people begin to feel a little stale.
If that’s a place you find yourself today, I’m hoping I’ve got a few ideas here for you that might mix things up a little and get you energised on the marketing front.
First things first: I’m not talking about paid marketing here, like ads on Instagram and Facebook. I’m talking about organic (free) things you can do to attract and capture the attention of the types of people you want to be doing business with.
1. WEBSITE SEO
Your website is where people are going to come to find out more about you, so we want people to be able to find you! This is where SEO, or search engine optimisation comes in. SEO is about making sure you’re using the right keywords throughout your website that your ideal customer would be searching for. If you serve clients in a particular location, having that location mentioned (and all the iterations of it and nearby towns, too) is absolutely necessary for your website to have. Similarly, think about what your core offerings are and the variety of terms people might use when searching for these services. You want all of those words to be on your website, too. Improving our SEO is what helps our website rank higher on Google (and other search engines).
2.BLOGGING
Have you been blogging lately? Do you know that you should be blogging? The benefit of blogging is that it keeps your website current as it’s regularly being updated with fresh content. When the “Google bots” can see that our website is being frequently updated, it’s more likely to rank your website higher in search results. If your brain just exploded and you thought “Stacey, I can’t possibly find the time to start blogging as well”, don’t worry! You can be resourceful and use some of the AI programs out there like ChatGPT to get you started and then add your own opinions, expertise and flair to personalise the content for your audience.
3.SOCIAL MEDIA
Of course you know you need to be on social media… but you need to be on the right social media platforms where your customers are most active, and you need to show up consistently. In the same way your website should be communicating what you do in a way that solves your customer’s problems, your social media should be doing the same. It’s very easy to snap a photo and say “I have this product / service. It costs this much. Get it here”, but that is not at all what your ideal customer is looking for! You need to provide value to your target audience through regular posts that show them you have the knowledge / expertise / skill set / products / services to help them.
4.EMAIL MARKETING
If you’re not regularly communicating with your audience via email, you’re missing out on an incredible marketing opportunity. I’m not talking about emailing your customers to sell them things—I’m talking about emailing them to continue building a relationship with them so when the time comes that they need your type of product or service, your business is the first person they think of. So please don’t think that email is gone or that email is dead, or that your customers don’t want to hear from you…. It’s just not true! It takes eight touch points in order for somebody to know like and trust you enough to get to the point of a purchase. Using email marketing is a way to help you increase those touch points.
Okay! That’s it for my 4 online strategies to help you attract more customers. Next week I’ll be sharing with you some “offline” strategies you can give a go.
