I have a question for you…. Who is your ideal customer? Can you describe them to me?
When I ask this question, most people will start to recite key demographic information such as:
They’re female.
25 – 45 year old.
Middle income.
Have at least one child.
Live in my local area.
… and so on.
This is all useful information, but there are details that are far MORE important about your ideal customer that are critical to converting them to a paying customer or client.
I’m talking about their PROBLEMS.
As a business owner, it is your goal to present your product or service offerings as the solution to the problems your potential customers are experiencing.
Donald Miller in his StoryBrand Framework talks a lot about positioning yourself as the guide for your customers; the person ready to guide them through their challenges and towards a solution. Particularly important, he says, is painting a really great picture of what success looks like on the other side of that problem.
He also talks about being able to pinpoint exactly what will happen if the person doesn’t get guided towards your product or service (aka: the solution). What will it feel like for them to not have their problem solved?
QUESTION: “Wait…. You’ve lost me. How do I connect my ideal customer’s problems, with my product or services, and then my social media?
ANSWER: You start creating content specifically for the ideal client you’ve identified. The messaging within that content is geared towards presenting the solution they are seeking to their problems.
Marketing should never sound or feel like an endless sales pitch.
If you’re not attracting your ideal clients or are struggling to convert your social media followers to paying clients, don’t feel defeated or overwhelmed. I can step you through a framework to resolve that.
