If you’re a regular listener of my podcast, How to run a successful business (and still have a life!) you would have heard me talk a lot about my “Favourite Things” over the past few weeks.
I thought I’d do a quick round up of them so they’re all in one place in case you want to take a read / listen / watch yourself.
How are you, really? By Jenna Kutcher
“How are you, really?” is all about asking yourself and asking others this question and actually being invested in the answer. Jenna encourages you to tap into what you want, how you really are, how you’re feeling, and then to make decisions that move our lives in directions that are true to us, true to what we want to do, and true to what we believe in.
The Light We Carry, By Michelle Obama
This is an incredible follow up to her first book, Becoming. I listened to it as an Audiobook and was hooked day and night. Michelle reads the book so beautifully. This book makes you want to step up to the things that are hard in your life, it makes you want to be a good mom, a good partner, a good friend, a good human. It makes you want to do better. It’s a beautiful reminder how we all have the ability to be able to impact the people around us, and if we take that responsibility seriously and we are conscious about it, then the impact that we can have can be incredible.
Forty Favours The Brave, By Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills
This book really taps into what it feels like to hit a milestone birthday. I personally didn’t anticipate all of the emotions that came with turning 40 myself. All of a sudden this overwhelming questioning about everything in my life presented itself and said, “Now that you’re 40, you need to think about some things”. This book spoke so clearly to me and talked me through everything I’d been thinking about. It’s not just about the authors, it’s about other women who have gone through this same feeling of reckoning and questioning. It made me realise I’m not alone, and this is such a common experience!
From Scratch, Netflix
This TV show rocked me to the core; I haven’t been moved by a show like this in a long time. The storyline is an artist finds romance with a chef in Italy and embarks on a life-changing journey of love, loss, resilience and hope across cultures and continents. It’s honestly the most gorgeous story. It’s left an imprint on me in a huge way and made a difference to the way I’m spending my time.
The Shrinking, Apple TV
This is the new Bill Lawrence show and of course I’m going to like it because Bill Lawrence is also the brains behind Ted Lasso! It stars Jason Segal and a lot of other characters you’ll recognise. It’s about a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. The characters are fantastic and the storyline sucks you in. You’ll love it.
Ted Lasso, Apple TV
There was no way I could send this email without mentioning the latest season of Ted Lasso. If you haven’t watched it yet, I BEG you. PLEASE go and watch it. If you don’t have Apple TV (which is what most people tell me is their excuse) then I’d go so far as to say it’s worth giving up one of your other streaming platforms and swapping to Apple TV, just so you can watch this TV series. It is absolutely brilliant and I will hear nothing else about it! Don’t even Google the storyline. Just open Apple TV and hit PLAY.
