There’s a committee that lives in my head. They meet regularly, never send minutes, and have way too much to say about how I’m running my business.
You might know them too — the voice that says:
The incredible Layne Beachley calls this crew “the itty bitty sh*tty committee”, and I laughed out loud the first time I heard her say it, because, well, it’s painfully accurate.
Mine love to show up when business feels wobbly, when I’m making big decisions, or when things just aren’t clicking as smoothly as I’d like.
They get louder when I’m tired. They get louder when I’ve skipped the habits that keep me grounded. (Therapy, movement, actual rest.)
And here’s what I’ve learned: If you don’t actively manage your mind, your committee starts running the meeting.
So today, a little reminder from one business owner to another: Your mindset work is part of your job.
You don’t have to wait until things fall apart to build mental resilience. You can start small, right now, by:
✨ Noticing when the committee pipes up. (Awareness is half the battle.)
✨ Challenging their agenda. Is what they’re saying true, or just fear in a fancy hat?
✨ Creating space for new voices, through therapy, coaching, podcasts, or even five minutes of quiet.
✨ Investing in your growth, because every time you strengthen your mind, you strengthen your business.
The committee will never stop meeting entirely (they’re very committed 😅), but you get to decide who chairs the room.
So here’s your permission slip for the week: Turn the volume down on the noise, and turn the volume up on what you know to be true about yourself and your work.
You’re doing better than that committee gives you credit for.
Promise.
