“What’s your pantry like?”
Ahh… next question? If you’re anything like me, your honest answer to this would be something along the lines of “a hot mess”!
But what if the question was asked to you by a 14 year old? You’d probably be less interested in your answer and fascinated as to why a 14-year-old wanted to know!
That was my experience when one of my dance students, @caitlins_cookies asked this question. She wanted to know if she could come over and organise my pantry for me!!! UM – YES!
What I love most about this is Caitlin’s young entrepreneurial spirit! Her reasoning for wanting to work on my pantry was fuelled by her desire to expand her current business, Caitlin’s Cookies, into Caitlin’s Kitchen where she could incorporate her organising skills to help people with their pantries! What a brilliant idea!
Caitlin originally started baking cookies to help her save money to come on our Port Macquarie Performing Arts America tour. She made so many cookies that she did, in fact, raise enough to cover the cost, and now she’s saving for other things… and growing her business!
When we’re young we don’t overthink and we don’t analyse. We just DO it. But as we become older that spirit is lost in our struggle to keep up with society’s idea of perfection. Instead of analysing for the sake of research and then executing on our ideas, we get bogged down and fall into the trap of “if it’s not perfect, it’s not worth it”.
I think it’s time we all reclaimed a little of that youthful, entrepreneurial spirit!
Here’s how. I want you to write down a list of all the “big ideas” you’ve had over the past few years that have been sidelined in your pursuit of perfection.
Some common ones I hear:
I want to start a podcast but am worried it won’t be professional enough.
I’ve always wanted to take my side hustle full time but I don’t think I’m ready yet.
I have this idea for a new program / service / revenue stream to add to our business but it feels scary!
Once you start, you can always refine!
So, what idea are you going to start progressing on next?
