We’ve spent a lot of time over the last couple of blog posts defining the three pillars that make up our own version of success. Thinking about how much time we’re going to need in our life and where we are going to devote the time that we have. Thinking about what energises us and how we are going to use those energies to be able to show up, in the best way possible in the world. And thinking about how much money we’re going to need to earn in order to be able to live out our purpose.
And that may be scary for some of you. And I can tell you, and I can speak from firsthand, starting putting my thoughts and feelings and learnings out into the world like this publicly, it’s scary—it’s not easy. And it’s not something that I was able to just jump up one morning and start straight away.
But I tell you what, I decided to put progress in front of perfection. And by doing that, I was able to be able to just start and get moving. And that movement has created momentum. And then that momentum is building. And for me, it’s enabling me to be able to create more, which I’m able to then be able to serve you better.
And I’m saying all of this to you, including admitting my insecurities, because I know that you’ve got something that’s tapping you on the shoulder; that you have something, an idea, something that’s been whirling around in your brain, something that you would like to put into place that you haven’t yet.
Because you might not have enough time.
You might be too tired and not have enough energy.
Or you might not have enough money to do it.
So what is it that’s on your list?
This week’s exercise is to do a bit of a brain dump. If you haven’t got a notepad close to you, get out your phone and you can use the note section. But I encourage you where possible to be able to write this stuff down. There’s something about writing it down that gets things filtered out of your brain. Do you find that? That if you’re writing something down, you understand it more clearly. Or you get a more clear train of thought. I definitely do.
So in this brain dump exercise, I want you to think about all of the things that possibly come into your brain. Don’t discard anything as a bad idea or not relevant, or that shouldn’t be part of the information that you’re putting down. I encourage you to write down anything that comes into your mind.
What are you not doing right now that you could do that would make a difference?
What is something you’ve been thinking about for a while that you can start doing that is going to head you closer towards the lifestyle that you desire?
What is something that you’re really good at?
What is something that people often say to you, “Gosh, you should do more of this.” Or, “Oh my gosh, I’d love seeing you do that.”
What is something that you’re good at that you perhaps haven’t acknowledged publicly? Or perhaps isn’t part of your life at the moment and it perhaps was a one off or something from your childhood?
What are those things that you’re good at?
What’s on your list of things that you would like to try, but have never had the chance? And that could be something that you wanted to try, but you thought that you couldn’t do it. You thought that you were too old, you thought you were too young. You thought that you weren’t brave enough. What are those things on your list that you would really like to try?
And I’m not just talking about jumping out of a plane, skydiving or something crazy like that. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to have a hobby. Perhaps you’ve wanted to introduce yourself to somebody. Perhaps you’d wanted to start a connection or form a bond, or perhaps there’s something a little bit bigger that’s tapping you on your shoulder, such as starting your own business or innovating in the business that you have.
What’s been tapping you on the shoulder as something that you’ve always wanted to do?
Write them down. Even if you think that you already know them, put the pen to paper, write it in your notes, put it down on paper now, and keep revisiting this list over the coming week or two.
In the next post, we’re going to determine what to do with this list, and how you know which items it’s time to pursue!
