I have three questions for you and I want you to answer them honestly.
Do you have a list of “big ideas” where you brain dump all the excellent things you think of?
Do you actively set aside time in your schedule to look at how you could pursue these ideas?
Do you always blame “not enough time” or “not enough money” as the reason you haven’t yet hit the “GO” button?
Here’s a truth bomb. The first step in making any of those ideas happen has nothing to do with money, and honestly… time isn’t really the problem either (but I understand why it feels like it is).
So let’s get your entrepreneurial spirit fired up so you have the motivation to make things happen! And in news that will surprise no one—once we’re motivated to pursue something, we magically find more time to invest in it! I LOVE it when that happens.
My 3 go-to actions when I need a motivational boost:
What other women can I surround myself with that are motivating, encouraging, and doing things I aspire to? Bonus points if they’re either in my shoes / stage of life, or have previously been there and can relate! Who would be on that list for you? Can you set up a walk / catch up / coffee date with them soon?
Remind myself what motivates me and do more of THAT. What motivates you? Does getting your body moving help with your frame of mind? Do you like to get in the kitchen and cook? Do you find starting a particular hobby invigorating? What’s that “thing you need” in life to encourage you to step up?
What can I listen to or read to get my brain firing and my heart racing? Personal development is my addiction. When I’m into a great book or an excellent podcast, I can’t WAIT to get to work on my own big ideas.
The point here is NOT to make you any busier! We’re looking for things we can fit into our current life; listening to a podcast while making dinner, taking the kids to ride their bikes from 4-5pm while you too squeeze in a walk, going to bed 30 mins earlier and reading a book, making a phone call to talk with an inspiring friend or joining a free webinar instead of aimlessly scrolling social media once the kids are in bed… You get the idea.
If you are struggling with the “mum guilt” side of this idea, think about it as modelling for your children what you want for them. As Glennon Doyle says in her fabulous book, Untamed: Motherhood is about modelling. Not martyring.
My 5 recommendations to get you started!
And finally, don’t let your pursuit of perfection be the reason you don’t get started!
Once you start, you can always refine!
