There’s always the temptation to “go it alone” when starting a business. Investing in a coach or finding a mentor often feels like something for “later”—when our business feels more legit.
But if I had to name one influence I’m forever grateful for, it’s my business mentor.
Here are 5 lessons in business I’ve learned from my mentor:
1. The Importance of Planning
In the early days, I was driven by adrenaline and wanted to do everything all at once. My mentor helped me understand the power of pacing—my energy, ideas, and business growth—so I had a clear roadmap instead of chaos.
2. The Value of Consistent Feedback
I used to fear feedback. Now I see it as fuel. With her support, I’ve embraced consistent input—good and bad—to help refine and improve what I offer.
3. The Need to Take Action
Accountability is everything. Monthly meetings with my mentor ensured I didn’t just set goals—I actually achieved them. She’s been a driving force to keep momentum going.
4. Celebrate the Wins
We often rush from task to task, forgetting to pause. My mentor reminded me to reflect, celebrate, and acknowledge progress. That reflection gives me the drive to reach the next goal.
5. Focus on the Numbers
Numbers used to overwhelm me. But she taught me that knowing your key metrics—and tracking them—gives you power to grow and succeed strategically.
