I am absolutely buzzing as I type this blog post for you—I’ve just hopped off a Zoom call with Lisa Messenger.
I shared with you last week that Lisa is our keynote speaker at next month’s
Simply Business Summit in Byron Bay. And after just 30 minutes of chatting with her about her presentation, I can honestly say it’s going to be even more brilliant than I imagined.
You can listen to our full conversation on my
How to Run a Successful Business (and still have a life!) podcast

but I had to share a few truth bombs Lisa dropped:
“I’d spent so many years over servicing, undercharging and being everything to everyone. The reason that something finally worked wasn’t that I was the smartest person in the room or that I actually knew what I was doing… It was because I got my mindset into gear. I learned how to have unwavering self belief.”
“Everything was stacked against me. What was in my favour—and what I’ll share with everyone attending your amazing Summit—is learning that when we can tap into our purpose and our passion and what’s driving us, the end result is extraordinary.”
“People see success or the ‘perceived success’ of others and think ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’. Well here’s the secret: None of us actually know what we’re doing. I’m an 11 or 12-year ‘overnight success’.”
“What I’d love to talk about at Summit is recognising what our strengths are. For example, I’m a great founder. I’m not necessarily a great CEO. We need to learn how to surround ourselves with people who are going to support us in whatever it is we’re trying to create. This is really important in business and as we grow in life.”
“Particularly when we’re starting out in business, it’s important to remember there are more currencies than cash. If you can’t afford the extra help you need… what skills can you share or exchange with another business owner instead of exchanging cash? This is a way that we can feel supported, lean into our own strengths and get help without having to pay physical dollars until we’re able to.”
Talk about speaking my language!
Lisa is real, raw, authentic, and vulnerable in sharing stories from her 22+ years in business in a way that supports women like you and me. Whether you’re just getting started or already 5+ years in, you’ll walk away from her talk (on the podcast or in person at Summit!) feeling inspired.
If you’re free from June 21–23, there are just 8 tickets left to join us in person at Simply Business Summit in Byron Bay. I’d absolutely LOVE for you to be one of the 30 women in the room with us.
