When it comes to using social media for your business, have you ever caught yourself thinking “I know I should be posting, but I just don’t know what to say?!”
Figuring out what to say is undoubtedly the biggest roadblock in the whole marketing process, so I want to clear that block for you today and help you get into the habit of regular posting—with confidence!
But first up: Why social media for your business?
Put simply, because no one is going to buy from you or use your service if they don’t know anything about you… or that you even exist!
Social media helps people learn to know, like and trust us — and it’s free!
We can use social media to give potential customers an incredible experience of what it’s like to work with us—before they’ve had to make any kind of formal commitment (other than hitting that ‘follow’ button, of course).
Here’s my Top 5 Tips for making social media posting easier!
- Pick a theme around each day to give you a launch pad for what to say. Motivational Monday, where you share a favourite quote. Team Tuesday where you introduce a member of your team or share something fun about them. Throwback Thursday when you share an older photo and tell us the fun story behind it. The theme can be anything as long as it prompts an easy idea for you.
- Batch your content. Instead of batching a month at a time (which sounds wonderful but rarely sticks), try batching similar content. For example, take an hour and batch 5 “Motivational Monday” posts, or 5 “Team Introduction” posts. Sticking to one topic at a time will generally help you find your flow and create more easily than jumping between topics.
- Create for your customer. Instead of thinking about how you can talk about yourself and what you’re selling, talk about the customer and how they might be feeling. Making them the subject helps the message feel less awkward and builds a bridge to your product or service as a solution.
- Embrace the “shout out”. Highlight someone else in your content—maybe a customer’s photo using your product or a recommendation for a complementary business. This is an easy win and a great way to build community.
- Use social proof. People want to know what others think. Share feedback, testimonials, or reviews to show the value you provide.
And one bonus tip: Remember that social media is a conversation, so engage with your followers and take a couple of minutes each day to reply to comments and DMs—it shows people you appreciate their interaction.
