Before we dive in, make sure you’ve read Part 1 of this Goal Setting series. It walks you through the most important first step in the process.
All caught up? Great—let’s get into Part 2.
After completing the Wheel of Life exercise, you’ve probably pinpointed some key areas where things need attention. And like many of us, a lot of your goals might fall under the category of “work.”
Now that you know what you want, it’s time to make a plan to get there. Start with your Vision and Mission. Ask yourself: “Where do I want to be in 10 years?” (Or 5 years if that feels more manageable.) Then work backwards.
For example, I once set a goal of reaching 400 families enrolled at my dance studio within three years. I was at 268 at the time. My mini-milestones became: 300 by Year 1, 350 by Year 2, and 400 by Year 3. Those smaller goals made the bigger one achievable.
With the goal in place, now comes the action. You can’t just think or talk about it. You have to roll up your sleeves and get it done.
In my case, I focused on three things: improving retention through staff training, increasing brand awareness through community strategy, and attracting new students—especially younger ones. We adjusted class offerings and promoted to parents of preschoolers. The result? Goal achieved.
But it didn’t happen overnight. It took strategy, investment, commitment, and consistency.
If you’ve set goals before but felt they went nowhere, this process will change everything: Reflect. Refine. Rise. Do the work—and watch the results unfold.
