At WPMPA we have two streams for our Jazz and Musical Theatre classes: Our Recreational stream and our Performance stream.
What is the difference between Recreational and Performance classes?
As some students are interested in competing in Eisteddfods and some are looking for a class with a little less commitment, we offer both options at WPMPA.
When do each of the classes perform?
In recreational classes, students have the opportunity to perform twice a year with their class in two separate routines. Firstly at our Mid Year Showcase, usually held at the end of Term 2 at The Glasshouse, then again in term 4 in our End of Year Concert.
Performance classes do these two performances along with any eisteddfod competitions that WPMPA enter throughout the year. Example of these include Taree Eisteddfod in May, Coffs Harbour Eisteddfod in June, Kempsey Eisteddfod in July and the Port Macquarie Eisteddfod in September. Each year typically we choose 2 or 3 of these eisteddfods to compete in.
How do I qualify for a performance class?
In order to attend performance classes, students must be enrolled in and attend two ballet syllabus classes each week in their allocated level.
Is there a price difference between recreational classes and performance classes?
No, both classes are the same tuition price.
How much does a performance cost?
Each performance opportunity at WPMPA has a performance charge involved which covers entry fees/hire charges, rehearsal fees and administration. The 2015 performance charge is $35 per performance and costume hire is $12 per costume.
Do I have to commit to all performances if attending a performance class?
Yes, it is important as we are teaching teamwork and team building in each of our classes that students commit to all of the performances throughout the year. This also makes choreography easier for teachers as routine do not have to change between competitons according to attendance.
Performances are optional in recreational classes however please tell your teacher at the beginning of the year if your child does not intend to perform at the Glasshouse.
Can I swap and change between performance and recreational streams throughout the year?
We prefer students to stick to the class they have chosen at the beginning of the year in order to build camaraderie with their teammates throughout the year in their chosen class whether it be performance or recreational.
