At Port Macquarie Performing Arts, all staff members embrace their role of teaching in a fun and encouraging manner, these five steps outline our teachers promises to our students and their parents.
5 Things your dance teacher should do for you!
1. Love dancing and love teaching it to you.
The best dance teachers breathe dance. Dance is a teacher’s life and they are compelled to share this fascination with their students.
Great dance teachers are immersed in the art of dance and the act of teaching it. Because of this, a great teacher keeps working to develop their teaching skills and is devoted to providing the highest quality experience to their students.
2. Motivates you and pushes you to be your best
A terrific teacher will appreciate individuality and personal progress. They will expect you to improve and do your best, all the while never giving up on you regardless of your progress. Genuine support from a dance teacher will involve pushing and pulling. A great teacher is one who challenges you, inspires you and will find a way to lead you to your full potential.
3. Cares for your health and safety
Physical and mental health are important in dance. An excellent teacher will keep up with the latest and best information on safe teaching practices. A dance teacher should stop at nothing to provide a safe and caring environment for all students.
With a well thought out plan that has been based on the students ages and abilities a professional teacher will have a good understanding of appropriate techniques to allow in each class. A good teacher will not allow advanced techniques when a student is not ready for them, doing this can be detrimental to a students progression as a dancer.
4. Encourage creativity and imagination
Dance is an art, and a great dance teacher should embrace that. Dance is great for self expression, creation and using your imagination. Dance classes should be engaging, interesting as well as informative and should encourage students to come out of their shell and think beyond the box.
5. Makes you love coming to class as much as they do!
Your dance teacher loves their job! They spend all day editing music, preparing classes, looking for the perfect costume, finding the newest songs, thinking of fun ways to help you learn, and they want you to enjoy your class as much as they do. You dance teacher should make you feel welcome in their class and encourage you to participate and be involved in what they have to teach you.
