I thought it would be interesting to share some of the business tools and resources I’m loving right now that you might also enjoy.
If you haven’t heard of it before, Canva is an online graphic design tool. Essentially, you can save the money of having to pay a graphic designer to do all of your social media posts, all of your posters, slide presentations, your email marketing… anything really! Canva have also just released a collaboration with Office Works in Australia so you can make incredibly beautiful pieces of work in Canva and then simply order it and then walk down to your local Office Works and pick it up! MIND BLOWN! You can also schedule your own social media posts inside Canva, which is something I’ve only just discovered. In terms of usability for your business, Canva is a big winner.
Calendars are funny things. People are obsessive about the types of calendar they use, how they use them, what they look like, and so on. Regardless of your preference, the truth is you’re opening yourself up to chaos if you don’t have a good calendar system.
You’re meant to have thoughts that go in and out of your brain and then you need to have systems and processes in place so that you can store information outside of your head. Your brain should be used for storing lovely things like memories from your childhood, kind things that people have said to you, experiences you’ve had.
In terms of what happens in my day-to-day existence, Google Calendar is my best friend. It’s not just where I put appointments but also where we block out time for meeting days and deep work sessions which has been a game changer for me.
What Happened To You is a book by Dr Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey. You might not think that this is a business book, but oh my goodness. I immediately bought a copy for every single person on my team and handed them out as soon as I got done with reading it. It is just oh-so incredibly good. It’s good if you want to understand people, it’s good if you want to understand yourself. It’s good if you want to understand your customers. It’s good if you want to understand the people that you work with. It’s good if you want to understand your mother in law. It’s just really good across a whole range of relationships.
The Ride of a Lifetime is Robert Iger’s book, the CEO of Walt Disney Company. It’s a beautifully-told story about his climb to being the CEO. I just couldn’t put it down because it’s intertwined with lessons of leadership, integrity and authenticity, the way that he built relationships, the way that Disney acquired Pixar, the stories of what happened behind the scenes and behind closed doors. It’s filled with incredible lessons whether you’re leading a company or leading a family.
So they’re three things I’m loving at the moment. If you have anything I should add to my list, I’d love to hear about it!
